Valentine's Day Gifts: Do You Look for Discounts?

In about two weeks from now, people will celebrate Valentine's Day. I've been shopping for a gift for my wife. I don't want to be cheap, but I also don't want want to spend an arm and a leg for an expensive item since we need to prioritize for our upcoming wedding in summer.

There are a few ways I know of when saving money. One is through my amazon affiliate program, and one is by hunting coupon and online deals like DealTattle.com - Coupon Codes & Discounts. I gave my wife a Kindle (an ebook reader by Amazon) for her last birthday (and as a Christmas present as well). She was happy and I know she will be able to use it. I was actually contemplating between that and a Sony, but in the end, Kindle seems to be the most practical for her.

This Valentine’s though, I want to give her bunch of flowers with additional fancies like chocolates and a balloon. I really don't mind if I couldn't find a deal or discount. I want to give her something thoughtful, so she knows I remember her even if we're far away. If I found a good deal, I'll grab it; it wouldn't hurt. Besides, my wife is not materialistic like any other girls. For her, the greatest gift I could her is myself.

That’s my kind of girl. ;)

Got my Nikon D90 + Other Gear!

My latest Digital SLR Camera finally arrived after several days of waiting! It's a Nikon D90 with Kit lens (18-105mm), but I am planning to sell the lens. I bought 2 other lenses (Tokina 50-135mm f/2.8 and Nikon 50mm f/1.8) which I will frequently use.

Here's a sample shot using Tokina 50-135mm on D90 body:

If you click HERE to view large size, you will see that the focus is very sharp and the bokeh is excellent!

Street photography, Event photography and portraiture are my interest, so I am going to need a lot of practice to master all my gears!

Happy Easter 2009

Happy Easter 2009! This is the day that Jesus resurrected from the dead, so we Christian celebrate this important day.

What is Easter?

According to Christian scripture, Jesus was resurrected from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. Christians celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day or Easter Sunday (also Resurrection Day or Resurrection Sunday), two days after Good Friday and three days after Maundy Thursday. Source: wikipedia

So make sure to go to mass this Sunday; let's celebrate and pay due respect to the Lord our God.

LRT Suspended for Holy Week

I was supposed to use the LRT going to my girlfriend's place when I saw this sign hanging on the rope blocking the stair's entrance. No LRT for the entire Holy Week. Are you kidding me?

If you can't read the sign, it says:
Walang Byahe ang train simula April 9-12. Stop operation of Train: Monday pa ang byahe 13 sa Abril sa train. TY.
I kinda like LRT - it's cheap and much faster than taking a cab/jeep or driving. *sigh* What can I do?

April Fool's Day - Did You Get Fooled?

Yesterday (April 1, 2009) was April Fools Day. According to wikipedia, "The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, enemies, and neighbors, or sending them on a fool's errand, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible."

Luckily for me, I haven't been pranked on this day. Ever. At least not directly. But I know I've been fooled by sneaky internet articles before.

So, did you get fooled yesterday?

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Are you wearing green just like the Irish? Today's holiday is symbolized by many signs, and one of them is a rainbow.

It is said that at the end of rainbow, you'll find the leprechaun's pot of gold. However, the photo below is a clear manifestation that the pot of gold is a myth.

Luck, for me, is an overrated happening. We make our luck by preparation. We decide our own fate by making the right choices.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Wishing you all the best of luck! ;)

After Holiday Sale - GIFT CARD MALL

I received a few gift cards from my students this past Christmas, and I honestly do not know what to do with those. I have 1 for Starbucks, 2 for Dunkin Donuts, and 1 for a fine dining restaurant. Sweet, huh? One thing I observed during the holiday: Gift cards are pretty much preferrable to give as a present.

If you are thinking of an after holiday present, and do not know what to give, Gift card is one way to go. Gift Card Mall is a good site where you can find tons of cards for your needs. They have several categories where you can choose from: Gift card for your girlfriend, for your nephew, for your parents, and more. What I like about the gift card mall is that you can design your own gift card! A personalized appeal for a card -- How cool is that?

Not convinced? Check out their site right now, and see how many stores they are affiliated with. The stores range from Toiletries, to sports, to food, to clothing and many more! So if you prefer giving gift cards as a present, go to GIFT CARD MALL and you'll never go wrong.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

This is the time of the year when we have to be thankful for for everything that we have. The priest from yesterday's mass said that we will never know how thankful we are of one thing until it is gone.

So treasure everything that you have.

We celebrate Thanksgiving by cooking huge meals for everyone in the house. The most prominent are turkey and ham. However, I'm not really a big fan of turkey. Are you?

Anyway, enjoy the holidays! There are no school today and tomorrow, and I think most companies are closed as well.

Happy Thanksgiving again!

Happy Columbus Day!

Happy Columbus Day! Many state and local government are closed today. Some public schools are closed and some Catholic schools have the option to close. Post offices are closed, so don't wait for the mailman to deliver your mail! :P

As a teacher, I am enjoying this free day! It means rest, rest, rest before indulging again to the world of teaching and kids -- which is both happy and stressful.

This day-off also allows professionals like me to do errands like laundry, keeping the house (or room) tidy, and other house chores. I might do the laundry later, as I am running out of pants for work.

Here in Journal Square, JC, it seems peaceful and quiet. Metered parking must be full, as JC Parking Authority is closed as well. Meaning, it's free to park anywhere allowed!

What about you? How are you spending this holiday? Are you going out to buy something?

Speaking of which, there might be sale or discount in the stores today. I might drop by to peek, will buy if I see something interesting. Other than that, I'm just spending the day resting, running errands, and preparing for work this week.

Before I end this, I wish you all a Happy Columbus Day! Hope you are having a great time!

Till next post...
