How Concerned Are You About Your Weight?

As a 30-something person, I am more concerned about my health more than when I was young at 17. When I was still a teenager, I ate almost every type of food, and I didn’t care if they were healthy food or not. As long as it tasted good, I’d make sure to grab a bite.

Luckily for me, I eat moderately. As a result, I remain skinny, at least in relation to my age. I never got overweight, but I found it easy to gain or lose weight. When I felt like adding up a few pounds, I just eat a lot and wait until the pants do not fit any more. When I feel I am too heavy, I just skip meals . Health Weight Loss is never really a problem for me.

The thing is, I should start to watch what I eat from now on. Entering the 35ish territory, I must limit my cholesterol intake and eat more veggies. Limit the greasy and oily food no matter how delicious they are. In addition, I am also planning to work-out as I haven’t hit the gym for quite some time now. 15-minute exercise in the morning is a good start, then increase the repetition and add more physical activity like playing basketball.

I want to live until I’m a 100 years old and see what the future will become.

My new Website for my Hobby

As I expand my latest hobby that is photography, I decided to build a website that will allow me to document my progress.

Choosing a name for a site isn't always easy, especially if you also intend to use it for business later on. I wanted my site to be easy to remember and at the same time, will represent what I do and what I am.

Welcome to PhotograPens.com...

Now the etymology:

Obviously, the "Photogra" portion stands for Photography. Pretty much self-explanatory. The "Pens" part is intended with pun.

"Pens" means writing, or in this case blogging. My objective is not limited to snapping and taking pictures... I also plan to write about the moments and memories captured by my camera.

There's also an anecdote attached to it which I am going to tell in a short concise sentence: my wife likes calling me "Pens" which is short for my surname "Pensoy".

My hobby + my wife's term of endearment to me = photograpens.com ... sounds good to me.

If you are interested to know, I plan to go the "event photography" route. Portraiture also interests me, so I also got myself a nice prime lens (Nikon 50mm f/1.8).

Excuse me, I'll just step out to practice my shots. ;)

Got my Nikon D90 + Other Gear!

My latest Digital SLR Camera finally arrived after several days of waiting! It's a Nikon D90 with Kit lens (18-105mm), but I am planning to sell the lens. I bought 2 other lenses (Tokina 50-135mm f/2.8 and Nikon 50mm f/1.8) which I will frequently use.

Here's a sample shot using Tokina 50-135mm on D90 body:

If you click HERE to view large size, you will see that the focus is very sharp and the bokeh is excellent!

Street photography, Event photography and portraiture are my interest, so I am going to need a lot of practice to master all my gears!

Black Friday and Cyber Monday Deals!

Black Friday Sale officially begins today. While some people prefer to camp out and line up at stores like Walmart and Best Buy, others conveniently shop online.

If you want to take advantage of huge deals on the internet, try shopping at Amazon.com. They have wide selections of items ranging from electronics to home/garden to fashion. I am getting myself a brand new Nikon D90 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera, as I want to upgrade my "skills" in photography. I am planning to use the camera for blogging (on my sites) and for a small photography business here in JC, NJ.

Don't have the time to shop today or still can't make up your mind on items you want to purchase? Don't worry, the Amazon deals will extend until Monday (called Cyber Monday, November 30, 2009), and you still have the chance to get cheap stuff! You have to hurry, though, before the items are gone.

Shop at Amazon.com NOW! :D

Typhoon Ondoy's Wrath

Strong typhoon hit Manila, Philippines causing heavy flooding especially in the depressed areas. My hometown (Pandacan, Manila) only suffered minor flooding and power outage, but the surrounding towns and cities were submerged in flood water.

Watch the 10-minute youtube video below (contains foul language in the middle portion of the clip) as it shows how devastating the storm was:

The government is calling for unity now, "bayanihan" in our local parlance. As of this writing, the flood water in some areas has receded down to knee. Traffic has returned to normal in some roads, but some streets are still not passable.

Cool Diesel Undies from Zappos

The first time I saw this underwear (in the pic), I thought it is cool and hip. I consider myself a simple man, so I settle for something not "fancy", especially for things that nobody else sees. In simple words, I'm fine with "tighty-whities".

However, after getting married last month, I thought "some variations" could be fun, especially if they're from Diesel. I've always liked Diesel: pants, shirt, or perfume. I'm sure these new undies are top-notch in terms of quality and style. The wife is going to enjoy them if you know what I mean. ;)

Did I mention Zappos'intimate selections? Check them out and see how sexy those jocks are. Read the reviews from other customers and learn how happy they are with the underwear. The designs are stylish, and the fit is perfect. I can't wait to get myself one or two!

Lakers = 2009 NBA Champions!

After 7 long years, the Lakers are once again the NBA Champions!

Beating the Orlando Magic in just 5 games, the Lakers secured its 15th trophy in 30 Finals Appearance. This championship is very special. It also means Phil Jackson (the Lakers head coach) surpassed Red Auerbach as the coach with most championship rings Phil 10, Red 9).

Of course, for Kobe Bryant, even though he doesn't say it, the pressure of NOT winning without Shaquille O'neal has been lifted off. This is Kobe's 4th ring, tying Shaq and Tim Duncan as the active players with most rings.

Congratulations Lakers! I hope the Front Office keeps the team intact or makes some improvement for the team to repeat and build a dynasty for the next decade.

Dream Bedroom

I'm getting married in about a year from now, and of course housing is a major concern. What I'd like to have is this 3 Piece Cedar Queen Bedroom Set from rustic furniture. I think this bedroom set would be perfect for a newly-wed couple: big, elegant, and it looks like it would last forever.

If I would give myself a gift, this bedroom set would be a perfect present.

NBA 2009 Finals: Lakers vs Magic

After the long wait, the NBA Finals 2009 is here. Los Angeles Lakers vs Orlando Magic. Shooting Guard Kobe Bryant against Center Dwight Howard.

If you'll remember, the two were teammates last year in the Olympics where they helped US Team win the gold medal. Starting tonight however, they will go against each other for the biggest price of their NBA career: the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

This season, the Orlando Magic has swept the Los Angeles Lakers in the regular season -- both games, Magic All-Star Point-guard Jameer Nelson displayed dominance; but he is injured and will only play portions of the Finals. The Lakers didn't have a match-up against him as Lakers guard Shannon Brown - traded from Charlotte Bobcats and showed flashes of brilliance throughout the season - wasn't playing earlier for the Lakers this year.

Of course I am rooting for the Lakers. But the Orlando Magic is no joke of a team. They came through a hard-fought playoffs series and they were pretty confident after beating the Cavaliers in the the Easter Conference Finals.

The Lakers however, are more experienced and hungrier after the stinker performance in the Finals last year against the Celtics. They want to prove something, especially Kobe Bryant, who's been hounded by foolish criticisms that he can't win without Shaq.

Lakers in 6.

Increase Self-Esteem With Plastic Surgery

Are you a woman whose self-esteem is very low because of how you look? Do you feel your looks and assets are not adequate enough? Do you feel you've done everything you could to make yourself look good, but it's still not working?

If you're thinking of surgeries as a last resort to improve yourself, a cosmetic surgery is available in California. A Female Plastic Surgeon in Los Angeles (some pages of the site are Not Safe For Work, so be cautious) can help you out. Dr. MacDonald of LA County does "breast augmentation, liposuction, rhinoplasty and other cosmetic surgery procedures" to help women improve themselves.

Although I'm a man, I know a thing or two about self-confidence. As a matter of fact, I'm wearing braces to improve my smile even though I'm an adult already. You do what you're supposed to do to eliminate self-consciousness.

So if you're a woman living in L.A., check out Dr. MacDonald for Plastic Surgery and shoot them an email if you have questions. ;)

Blogging for Money?

Many people thought they can be rich overnight by blogging. Nope, that's not the case. A lot of people make mistake by entering the blogosphere knowing not what to do exactly.

Money-making is not simple. You gotta know what to do. A-List bloggers do not just have one blog -- they have multiple streams of income. They do however own a flagship blog -- a blog that made them popular. A-list bloggers made us think that they earn 6-figures by only having one blog.

There are various ways to make money by blogging. One of the popular is Google's Adsense. But it is difficult to make money off of it. You have to be an expert in targeting keywords and producing backlinks. A niche blog is suited for Adsense. Niche blog means you're only blogging about one particular interest, and your traffic should be coming from search engines like google or yahoo.

Another is by writing paid reviews. In this type, you sign-up in sites offering paid or sponsored reviews. You write something about the advertisers (minimum number of words required) then they pay you. Most of the paid sites send payment via PayPal.

Blogging for Money requires hardwork. Like I said, never stop in one blog. Otherwise, you'll never survive. Always experiment, and don't put your eggs in one basket.

How to Cook Kutsinta

Kutsinta is one of the very famous Philippine delicacies because of its delicious taste. Kutsinta is also very easy to make, you just need an hour or so (including the preparation).

So how do you make a popular Filipino food like kutsinta? The steps are very simple actually. Mix and steam, that's it. But first things first. Here are the ingredients:
  • flour - 1 cup
  • brown sugar - 2 cups
  • water - 3 cups
  • lye water (potassium carbonate solution sold in Asian food stores) - 1 teaspoon
  • Freshly grated coconut (budbod na niyog)
For full directions on cooking kutsinta, read the article about how to make or cook kutsinta.

Lakers Reach Western Conference Finals

Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers are back to the Western Conference Finals for the second consecutive year.

After routing their 2nd round playoff opponent Houston Rockets in their 7th and last game of the series at Lakers homecourt, the Lakers will face a well-rested Denver Nuggets - a team who vanquished the Mavericks in just 5 games.

The Lakers are now half-way to the championship trophy. If they beat the Nuggets, they will face the winner of the Easter Conference Finals match between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic.

The Lakers I believe will have a tough round against Denver, which is the hottest team right now in the West after landing 2nd in the regular season behind the Lakers. Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony should be fun to watch. The team whose bench players show up will win the game, and probably the series.

So good luck Lakers! And go get the ring!

How Many Blogs Do You Have?

This is an important question if you are trying to make money online: How many blogs do you have? More importantly: Do you make money off of them?

If you have several blogs, that's great news. You'll get lots of opportunity to make money online. But if your the words on your sites do not translate into dollars, you're just wasting your time.

You see, if you build a blog because writing is your hobby, that's fine. But if your intention is to make money, then be aggressive and build site the correct way, especially if you want to make money off of google adsense.

Ask yourself: how many hours have I spent on one blog alone? For how long have I been doing this? Did it pay off?

If you don't even break-even, it's time to re-check and re-evaluate your techniques. Else, you'll to continue to waste time for nothing.

Family Out of Town: Cebu - Kawasan Falls

Before I go back to work in the US, my siblings and I, together with corresponding partners, went to Cebu for a family vacation.

We spent 3 days (2 nights) in Cebu, and the last leg of our trip was in Kawasan Falls, which is a wonder of nature!

Kawasan Falls is far from Downtown, Cebu - around 4 hours trip. Special thanks to Karaan Family for their help, we were able to get there. They provided us transpo so we can go around Cebu.

In the picture above, we were standing on the foot bridge going to the Falls. No vehicles are allowed from that point on.

It was a fantastic getaway, and a great bonding experience with family. I hope to have a repeat of this trip or similar.

Happy Easter 2009

Happy Easter 2009! This is the day that Jesus resurrected from the dead, so we Christian celebrate this important day.

What is Easter?

According to Christian scripture, Jesus was resurrected from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. Christians celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day or Easter Sunday (also Resurrection Day or Resurrection Sunday), two days after Good Friday and three days after Maundy Thursday. So make sure to go to mass this Sunday; let's celebrate and pay due respect to the Lord our God.

MRT Ayala Station During Rush Hour

This is how it looked like at MRT Ayala Station during rush hour. Tons of people waiting for the train ride. Just imagine how it would look like inside the train. Wow. Inside the car you'll probably smell different odors, mixture of good and bad. If you're sitting, you probably have to deal with disgusting rubbing of legs. Oh, you also have to be extremely vigilant of pick-pockets.

By the way, this was taken today, after my girlfriend and I finished shopping for wedding bands/rings.

Happy 3rd Month Old, Yesha!

To my first immediate niece, Yesha - Happy 3rd month old! Her mom - my younger sister (next to me) Shandell - always makes it a point to celebrate this on a monthly basis. I think this will go on for a year, until Yesha celebrates her 1st birthday on January 11, 2010.

I'm happy I finally got the chance to her in person, and kiss and hug her.

LRT Suspended for Holy Week

I was supposed to use the LRT going to my girlfriend's place when I saw this sign hanging on the rope blocking the stair's entrance. No LRT for the entire Holy Week. Are you kidding me?

If you can't read the sign, it says:
Walang Byahe ang train simula April 9-12. Stop operation of Train: Monday pa ang byahe 13 sa Abril sa train. TY.
I kinda like LRT - it's cheap and much faster than taking a cab/jeep or driving. *sigh* What can I do?

10 Days in the Philippines

I'm in the Philippines for a short Easter vacation. This is my 2nd trip to my country of origin in a year. My previous visit was August of 2008.

This year, I'm spending my 10-day vacation with my girlfriend. This trip is for her. We're going to talk about our future together, and other plans for the "big one" next year.

Also, I'm planning to spend quality time with my brother and sisters by going to Cebu for a 3-days 2-nights trip. It should be fun.

April Fool's Day - Did You Get Fooled?

Yesterday (April 1, 2009) was April Fools Day. According to wikipedia, "The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, enemies, and neighbors, or sending them on a fool's errand, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible."

Luckily for me, I haven't been pranked on this day. Ever. At least not directly. But I know I've been fooled by sneaky internet articles before.

So, did you get fooled yesterday?

Jollibee in New York

Jollibee has opened its first branch in East Coast. It is located in Queens, New York. Several blogs and news reported that the waiting line is LOONNGGGG!!!

Well, what do you expect? It's Jollibee! It's the number 1 fastfood chain in the Philippines and basically a household name to all Filipinos in the Philippines and abroad. Pinoys are very excited about this, just look at the pic above.

I just wish they open another branch closer to JC. I don't know if I can go there to NY given my busy schedule despite the fact that I really miss it.

Earth Hour - Do You Care?

Today, we are urged to save Earth by turning our lights off at 8:30PM for one hour. Switching the lights off means a "VOTE for EARTH", against Global Warming. The Word Wildlife Fund, the creator of this event, is targeting 1 billion participants from all over the world.

Imagine if everyone does this at the same time for an hour -- we will save a lot of energy, and the Earth of course.

...In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everydaySource: Earth Hour

First Day of Spring: SNOW!

Spring is supposed to be sunny, and the temperature should start to feel warmer. However, the first day of Spring here in Hudson County and probably the entire tri-state area brings us snow.

It is not uncommon though. I heard from a long time New Jersey resident that she experienced snow in April. Wow.

With this in mind, I was wondering if NJ got snow in the summer. That would be something.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Are you wearing green just like the Irish? Today's holiday is symbolized by many signs, and one of them is a rainbow.

It is said that at the end of rainbow, you'll find the leprechaun's pot of gold. However, the photo below is a clear manifestation that the pot of gold is a myth.

Luck, for me, is an overrated happening. We make our luck by preparation. We decide our own fate by making the right choices.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Wishing you all the best of luck! ;)

Writing For Money Is Cheap Already

When you see the title, I assume you knew what I mean. Writing for money is already cheap - especially if your site doesn't have a Google PageRank yet.

PPP for instance, it will be extremely rare to find an opportunity worth at least $5 if your site has a PR of less than 3. I've been seeing crap sites that offer $2.50, even as low as .50c!

What and How do you get a PageRank

In a very simple definition, a pagerank is a means to measure a site's authority. Google measures it by counting how many other sites links to you. The more links you have, the higher score you get. But there are other variables needed to compute for your rank, but it is simply an inbound link to your site.

You get a site to link you using various techniques. You can:
  • Comment to other sites and leave your URL
  • Join blog carnival
  • Submit your sites to directories
  • Join community events
  • Writing articles for ezine and other related sites.
  • etc...
But it requires a lot of time. And we are counting several months here.

Do you Still Continue Writing For Money?

Well, it is simply a matter of preference. If you think .50C per post is worth it, then go for it. Otherwise, do not post. I can understand why the price is getting cheap -- it's probably the economy or the market (meaning bloggers) accept the price and write. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

Goodbye Idol - Francis M.

Sad news. One of the household names in the Philippines has passed away due to Leukemia. He was one my idols and I grew up listening to his songs. He was a modern-day patriot, showing his love to mother country by using his talents.

Below is a video of my favorite Francis M song: Kaleidoscope World. The tune is very nice, and the lyrics is easy to understand. Play it and sing it with me:

Kaleidoscope World

So many faces, so many races
Different voices, different choices
Some are mad, while others laugh
Some live alone with no better half
Others grieve while others curse
And others mourn behind a big black hearse
Some are pure and some half-bred
Some are sober and some are wasted
Some are rich because of fate and
Some are poor with no food on their plate
Some stand out while others blend
Some are fat and stout while some are thin
Some are friends and some are foes
Some have some while some have most

Every color and every hue
Is represented by me and you
Take a slide in the slope
Take a look in the kaleidoscope
Spinnin’ round, make it twirl
In this kaleidoscope world

Some are great and some are few
Others lie while some tell the truth
Some say poems and some do sing
Others sing through their guitar strings
Some know it all while some act dumb
Let the bassline strum to the bang of the drum
Some can swim while some will sink
And some will find their minds and think
Others walk while others run
You can’t talk peace and have a gun
Some are hurt and start to cry
Don’t ask me how don’t ask me why
Some are friends and some are foes
Some have some while some have most

Every color and every hue
Is represented by me and you
Take a slide in the slope
Take a look in the kaleidoscope
Spinnin’ round, make it twirl
In this kaleidoscope world

Happy Valentine's Day!

Just a quick post to greet everyone a Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you are enjoying this special day with your loved ones. Any plans for tonight? Dinner probably? I don't have any, as my girlfriend is not physically with me.

Anyway, I received a BULGARI Perfume from her. I liked the scent, very similar to ARMANI's GIO. My gift for her - as usual - will be late again. :P She doesn't mind.

Happy Valentine's Day once again!

Random Post: Warm in Jersey City

The weather forecast says it's going to be warm this week here in Jersey City. Yesterday it was gorgeous -- sunny and a little breezy. I wore short sleeve polo shirt to work matched with a pair of slacks.

Tommorow another nice day awaits. I heard it's going to be sunny, with temperature just below 60 degrees Fahrenheit! I guess it's a preview of Spring: warm, bright, with a little wind. I hope I can come to work wearing casual getup, you know like a pair of jeans (cheap monday jeans is a good brand), and a simple graphic tee, and a pair of sneakers, but no. I always have to wear business attire, otherwise I'd get reprimanded. :P

Anyway, I kinda like warm weather because it brings out the sweet aroma of the perfume I am wearing. I just received my Valentine gift from girlfriend -- a nice large bottle of Bulgari Aqua Eau De Toilette perfume!

The Lakers Beat Celtics and Cavaliers!

What an amazing week for Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers! They beat two powerhouse teams from the Eastern Conference: The Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Against the Celtics, the Lakers showed they can be physical as hell. They didn't fold when Boston Celtics pushed them off. Instead, they fought back and pushed. That's passion, muscle and intensity -- characteristics that were lacking from them last year when the leprechauns beat them badly in the Finals.

Against the Cavaliers, the Lakers showed they can play defense as well. Led by Lebron, the Cavs had been undefeated prior to Lakers match. The Lakers - number one in offense in the league - came with a game plan: pack the lane and don't give LeBron a room to shoot. It worked wonders. And since Lebron is a poor shooter, all he can do was to pass to a teammate or watch his contested shot miss. Oh, in this game, Kobe showed why he's the MVP: he played even with flu, played solid ball denial on Lebron early on, and took a decent FG attempt. If that's not an MVP, I don't know what is.

In conclusion, this road trip is a huge statement game by the Lakers not only to themselves, but also to the entire league. Even without a major player in Andrew Bynum, the Lakers showed everyone why they can win the championship this year.

Awesome Paint Jam!

This video is just awesome! I wish I could see this live as this performance can be seen in Atlantic City, just 2 hours drive from where I live.

The video shows a man painting, but I will not disclose any more information to not ruin the surprise. It's more than 5 minutes long, but it's really worth watching, believe me. ;)

Lakers Got Swept By the Magic in the Season

The Lakers lost to Orlando Magic. Again. The two teams only meet twice this season, but the Magic seems to have the Lakers' numbers.

The Lakers lost because of their poor defense, especially in the perimeter and out. Orlando Magic killed the Lakers by hitting their 3-point shots. The Lakers always have trouble defending the 3 because of doubling the post, which was unnecessary. It left their 3-point shooters wide open.

Also, their bigs are lazy on the rebound. Kobe Bryant - the 6'6" superstar - has 1 more rebound than Bynum and Gasol - both 7-footers - have combined. That tells a lot.

Kobe Bryant achieved his first triple-double of the season only put to waste because of the upsetting loss.

Next game will be on Monday, against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Do You Consider Cheap Perfume as a Gift?

I like giving a loved one a perfume as a gift. But it is expensive -- and a signature brand will probably cost you an arm and a leg.

However, cheap perfumes are not really hard to come by. Just do a little research either online or at the store, and make sure to buy a small bottle of perfume to save money.

Cheap perfumes as a gift is not unethical. It is really the thought that counts. Just ask yourself, would you really mind receiving a branded perfume on a discounted price? I don't mind. ;)

If you do want to give me a perfume, my preferred fragnance or scent is wood. ;) I don't mind if it is a cheap perfume as long as the brand is X-Limited by Etienne Aigner. ;)

New Year's Resolutions

Good bye 2008. Hello 2009.

Every turn of the year, I try reflect the things I had planned. Was I able to accomplish them? Did I become a better person?

Most of the time, people who I know personally do not accomplish all their new year's resolutions. I myself have set resolutions only not to do it, mainly because of lack of focus.

Let's review:

Below you will find my 3 general resolutions last year:
  • Learn how to dance
  • Earn more money from online sites
  • Smile confidently
I have started and have been progressing in my last 2 resolutions, but haven't done anything about the first. I am earning a little bit from my sites, and I got a braces to improve my smile.

This year, I created a new list, which still includes dancing. The rest of my new resolutions are:
  • be more punctual
  • take advantage of my year old domain via advertisements
  • read more books
  • be more socially-aware
  • be more motivated in doing household chores
I know if I set my mind to doing those things, I can accomplish them.

After Holiday Sale - GIFT CARD MALL

I received a few gift cards from my students this past Christmas, and I honestly do not know what to do with those. I have 1 for Starbucks, 2 for Dunkin Donuts, and 1 for a fine dining restaurant. Sweet, huh? One thing I observed during the holiday: Gift cards are pretty much preferrable to give as a present.

If you are thinking of an after holiday present, and do not know what to give, Gift card is one way to go. Gift Card Mall is a good site where you can find tons of cards for your needs. They have several categories where you can choose from: Gift card for your girlfriend, for your nephew, for your parents, and more. What I like about the gift card mall is that you can design your own gift card! A personalized appeal for a card -- How cool is that?

Not convinced? Check out their site right now, and see how many stores they are affiliated with. The stores range from Toiletries, to sports, to food, to clothing and many more! So if you prefer giving gift cards as a present, go to GIFT CARD MALL and you'll never go wrong.
